Web Statistics are generated every night. So you can have the most updated information the next day.

===How can I change the username and password to access my web statistics?===

Since your FTP username and password is linked to your web statistics. You will need to edit your FTP username and password.

If you find yourself with traffic to your website and consistently trying to log in to your Control Panel to adjust your servers RAM to compensate for the heavy load. We have a solution that may help you get some sleep.

Cloud Infrastructure API can Automatically Resize your Server. The RESTful API is one of the most useful and more interesting features of our Cloud Infrastructure service. With the ability to expose nearly all the features of your control panel the API will definitely help you get some 'REST'.

The Cloud Infrastructure RESTful API is well documented and available to all Cloud Infrastructure and Cloud Server subscribers. You can read the full documentation here:
==Accessing a Resource==
A PACI resource is accessed by sending an HTTPS request to a PACI server. When the server receives a request, it processes it accordingly (performs actions or retrieves data) and sends back a response that can contain the data that you requested, an operation status code, or an error messate. All PACI resources are accessed at the following URL (referred to as ''baseURL'')

https://{ip_address | hostname}:port/paci/version

where:
#'''ip_address | hostname''' is the PACI server IP address or hostname.
#'''port''' is the port number on which the server is listening for REST requests
#'''paci''' must be typed exactly as shown
#'''version''' is the API version number

For our resource the ''baseURL'' will use the following:

https://api.cloud.xmission.com:4464/paci/v1.0/

==Server Management==
Using this API can come in handy for various types of resource information for example you can use the API to list your current server, configure your server, even stop and start lets take a look at a few basic commands.

===List your current servers===
Use this request to obtain the list of servers owned by the current user

GET https://api.cloud.xmission.com:4464/paci/v1.0/ve

A sample out put would list your current servers.

<ve-list>
<ve-info description="XMission minecraft server" state="STARTED" name="minecraft" subscription-id="1003209"/>
</ve-list>

===More specific server info===
If you want to be more specific and obtain information about a specific server you can add the server name like this:

GET https://api.cloud.xmission.com:4464/paci/v1.0/ve/server1

A sample out put will look like this:

<ve>

<uuid>3c1c50b1.13d794f9065._7ff0</uuid>
<hnId>14</hnId>
<customer-id>1000001</customer-id>

Testing Server

<os-info type="ubuntu-12.04-x64" technology="CT"/>
</platform>
<network private-ip="10.0.0.0/8">
<public-ip chunk-ref="1" id="269" address="123.123.123.123/24" gateway="123.123.123.1"/>
</network>
<state>STARTED</state>
<primary-disk-id>0</primary-disk-id>
<template-id>12</template-id>
<admin login="root" password="[hidden]"/>
<steady-state>STARTED</steady-state>
</ve>

Here you can see it shows you all relative information about the server including the number of CPUs, CPU Power, Ram, IP address and much more.

Many more useful command can be used as well - more common would be to start or stop your server.

===Start / Stop your Server===

PUT https://api.cloud.xmission.com:4464/paci/v1.0/ve/server1/stop

A sample output would be:

VE START initiated

There is so much more you can do with this API including adjusting your server at peak times to compensate for your server load, and then readjusting them back during non peak times.

We have a great blog post regarding this API located on Transmission XMission's Company Journal
:[http://transmission.xmission.com/2013/08/19/use-the-cloud-infrastructure-api-to-automatically-resize-your-server Use the Cloud Infrastructure API to Automatically Resize Your Server]

Dapper: /* WHOIS Privacy */

==Definition of a Domain==
A domain name is a word or set of words followed by a suffix (e.g.: '''xmission.com''') that can be associated with many Internet services. The most popular association is for web pages (e.g.: '''http://www.xmission.com'''). Domain names are also used with mail (e.g.: '''username@xmission.com'''), ftp (e.g.: '''ftp.xmission.com''') and several other popular services. The way a domain name is linked to a service is through DNS or Domain Name Services. DNS links a name to an IP address (a set of numbers that identifies each individual machine connected to the Internet). Nearly everything on the Internet has an IP address in one form or another. Linking a domain name to an IP address makes it easier for people to remember. For example, if you wanted to go to XMission's home page, you would find it easier to remember '''www.xmission.com''' than the IP address, which is '''198.60.22.4'''.

==Domain Registration==
To register a new domain, you must first have an XMission account. Existing customers can, then, go to the [http://domains.xmission.com/reg_system.cgi domain registration system] to either register a new domain or transfer an existing domain from another registrar.

===Pricing===
You can register your own domain name for only $10 a year. Should you move or decide to leave XMission, this domain will remain yours for the duration of the time purchased. Domains purchased via XMission are transferable to other registrars.

===New Domains===
On our registration page, enter the domain name you would like to register in the box beneath Enter Domain Name to Search For. If the domain is available, you will be allowed to continue the registration. Fill in the information as prompted to complete the process. Note that you will be asked to create a username and password for your domain management. This does not have to be the same as your XMission username and password, so be certain that you don't lose it. The domain registration fee will be billed to your XMission account.

===Renewing===
When your domain is up for renewal, OpenSRS, the registrar we resell through, will send a paper invoice to the billing address on the domain. As an additional reminder, XMission will send an email reminder to the account that the domain was registered to. The charge for an extra year will be charged along with your next month of Internet services. If you do not wish to renew, please contact accounting and notify them that you would like the domain to lapse.

===Redemption===
One of the mostly costly things to happen to a domain is when they go into a redemption.

Redemption is when a domain has gone through a renewal phase without payment, that phase is usually 40 days from the first warning. It will then sit 30 days in a hold state until its released into the general public. The cost for bringing a domain out of redemption is 80 dollars that includes the 1 year renewal.

===Transferring===
If you are transferring a domain to XMission from another registrar, go to our registration page and enter that domain name in the box beneath Move Your Domain to Our Servers. You will be guided through the rest of the process as if you were registering a new domain. Another year will be added to your existing term. (E.g. If you registered for a year with another registrar and there is still 6 months left, you will still have that 6 months in addition to your new registration duration with XMission.)
Transfer

'''NOTE: In order to successfully transfer a domain, XMission requires customers to keep their email addresses current.'''

When a customer decides to transfer a domain, they will receive a series of emails with instructions on the process. However, the following challenges often arise:

1. The email never arrives due to spam filters, etc.

2. The customer may not respond quickly enough to the emails. After 5 days, the customer must start the transfer again.

3. The customer may have the wrong email address associated with the domain.

4. The customer may not have their password for the domains management page, which is separate from their XMission account password.

To successfully transfer a domain, the following conditions must exist:

1. A domain cannot be in a locked or hold status.

2. For reseller to reseller transfers - or registrar to registrar transfers - the domain must have resided with the losing registrar for more than 60 days since it was first registered or transferred there.

3. Transfers add one year to the domain's registration; therefore, the gaining reseller must have a sufficient balance for the renewal in order to complete the transfer request.

4. Domain names that are expired but not deleted (up to 40 days past the expiry date, for most TLDs) can be transferred.

5.The current administrative contact's email address must be valid, to allow for the confirmation of the transfer request.

NOTE: A domain's name servers cannot be changed during a registrar transfer. The nameservers will remain the same during the transfer, and they can be changed once the domain has reached the receiving registrar.

'''Extra Info'''

Not all registrars handle transfers/renewals or registrations the same as our reseller. Some places don't want to let domains go so they drag their feet and make it difficult which is annoying but there really is nothing we can do about it.

==Web Hosting==

Web Hosting is when XMission hosts your web site, and serves your pages by way of your domain name. Please see our [http://www.xmission.com/products/hosting/web/ Web Hosting] details page for pricing and a list of features for each package.

===Value Hosting===
This is a minimal service hosting package. XMission recommends this package for individuals that wish to have a web services associated with a domain name.

===Select Hosting===
Select hosting is a full-featured IP hosting package. XMission recommends this package for small businesses that would like fast and professional web services associated with their domain name.

===Pro-Hosting===
Pro-Hosting is a high-end, full-featured web hosting package built specifically with large businesses in mind. It allows for less accounts per server, more storage and more transfer.

===Hosting Services===

===Web===
Web hosting is the most used and most wanted hosting service. This allows web pages to be served via your domain name instead of '''www.xmission.com/~username'''.

===Email===

Please see our [http://www.xmission.com/products/hosting/email/ Email Hosting] details page for pricing and a list of features for each package.

====Hosted Email====
XMission's Zimbra Email Hosting is an excellent, next-generation email solution designed to handle the diverse needs of today's business customers. Zimbra allows you to manage the email for your domain through an easy-to-use web interface. From this interface you can add and remove mail accounts, aliases, forwards, and more.

====Virtual Email====
Email hosting, of "Virtual Email", allows you to associate your domain name with email addresses (e.g. '''me@mydomain.com'''). By default, this is done by sending all mail to a particular domain, regardless of the specific address, to the main email address for the hosting account. Specific addresses can be set up by request and at no charge. This is done by way of an alias. For example: I want '''bob@mydomain.com''' (the alias) to go to '''username@xmission.com''' (the actual email box/account). To check for email going to '''bob@mydomain.com''', I'd check the email box/account for '''username@xmission.com'''. You can set these aliases to send mail to any actual email account, in any domain. (E.g. '''bob@mydomain.com''' going to '''username@yahoo.com''').
Basic Hosting accounts can not set up additional aliases. All mail to that domain will go to the main account that the hosting services are associated with.

===FTP===
Associating FTP with your domain name is only available for Select and Pro-Hosting accounts. This Virtual FTP service allows visitors to go to ftp.yourdomain.com to upload files, receive software updates, or send and receive documents.
The FTP files that are associated with your domain name are located in your XMission FTP directory. If needed, we can associate it with a different directory or you can set up and maintain your own FTP server.
Please contact Support or Sales to have this service setup on your account.

==DNS Services==

XMission offers additional DNS services, which many hosting packages already include. You may want to use these in addition to a hosting package. They're also available for those who only require one of these services and not an entire hosting package. Please see our Pricing for a complete price list.

===Primary DNS===
The authoritative primary source for domain service direction. (E.g. Tells the whole world at which IP address to find where to send mail for '''mydomain.com''' or what IP address is associated with '''bob.mydomain.com'''.)

===Secondary DNS===
Back-up source for domain service direction. This is only necessary if the primary source does not answer.

===Parking===
Holding a registered domain with no associated services.

===Alias===
A domain name that resolves to another domain name. (E.g. '''http://www.mydomain.com/webpage.html''' would open the same file as '''http://www.my-domain.com/webpage.html''') An alias will keep the domain the visitor entered in the address bar of their browser.

===Redirect===
A domain name that's directed to another part of your web site. (E.g. '''http://support.mydomain.com''' would open the files under '''/home/users/a/acctname/support''', or another chosen directory.)

===Domain Locking===
When locking is enabled for a domain, any requests to transfer the domain to another registrar or hosting company will automatically fail. This can be used to prevent fraudulent transfers of the domain, while locking is enabled. Domain locking is handled through the [https://manage.opensrs.net/ OpenSRS Domain Management Portal].

===WHOIS Privacy===
WHOIS Privacy hides the identity of a domain Registrant when someone does a WHOIS lookup on that Registrant’s domain. The benefit of having WHOIS Privacy is that the Registrant’s identity, including address, phone number, and email address, is shielded from spammers, identity thieves, scammers, and other undesirables. WHOIS privacy is handled through the [https://manage.opensrs.net/ OpenSRS Domain Management Portal]. Once logged in, select '''Domain Extras''', then '''Enable Whois Privacy''', and lastly hit '''save'''.
You can create additional subdomains for use with any domains in your Unlimited Hosting account. First, ensure you are logged into your account at http://hosting.xmission.com.

*From the Control Panel, click on the "Websites & Domains" tab near the top of the screen.
*Near the bottom of the screen, click the "Add New Subdomain" button.
[[File:01-addsub.png]]

*On this screen, you will need to enter the following highlighted pieces of information. A brief description of each follows the image.
[[File:02-addsubnew.png]]
*Subdomain name: ''This is the name of your new subdomain. In this example, we would be adding the subdomain "example" which in this case would translate to "example.xdesign.com"''
*Document root: ''This is the folder where you will build your new website. In this example, we have used "/subdomains/example."''

'''Please note: It is highly recommended you create folders within the "/subdomains" directory to ensure your subdomain works correctly.'''

*Lastly, you will likely want to enable DNS for your new subdomain. To do so, ensure you have returned to the "Domains & Websites" tab and then click "DNS Settings" as indicated below:
[[File:04-addsub.png]]

*Click the "Manage" link beside the subdomain you just created. In this example, we would be using "wp.xdesign.com."
[[File:05-addsub.png]]

*Then, simply click the button labeled "Switch on the DNS Service."

Dapper: /* Introduction */

==Introduction==

'''Note''': These instructions assume you are familiar with basic HTML and fill-out forms. You should also note that all file names and form fields are case sensitive. XMission uses a CGI tool called cgi-email to generate email from a fill-out form page without the need for a separate email client (which would be needed with a tag). To configure your own email form, you need to create a form with the appropriate "action" URL and create a template email message. These steps are outlined in detail below.

For more details about CGI Email, or to learn how to set it up on your own server, refer to [http://web.mit.edu/wwwdev/cgiemail/ MIT's CGI Email] help pages.

==Creating the Form==

When you create your form, there are two main things you will need to do. The first is to be certain that all the form fields have a unique name. The second is to properly set the tag. Any standard form entries may be used (such as radio buttons, check boxes, pull-down select menus, etc.). Below is a short example of a proper form, but you may also review your mail.html.

John Doe's Email Form

Please fill out the form below.

Your Name:
E-Mail Address:
Subject:

Message / Request:

In red, you will see the tag. The method will be post, and the action will be your template message through our cgi-email script. The syntax shown in the form tag above should be followed exactly. You will, of course, replace "acctname" with your XMission account name, and mail.txt with the location and name of your template message. Your template message must be located in your public_html directory or a sub-directory within it. To show an example of a variation, the XMission username will be "web", the template message will be located in the public_html/contact/ directory, and it will be named "order.txt".

A notable bonus of using cgi-email is shown above in green. You can make a field required by preceding its name with "required-". XMission recommends that you make the email address a required field. The reason being, if you reply to your form and there is no email address present, your reply will automatically be sent to XMission's webmaster instead of the intended recipient.

==Creating the Template Message==

The template message is the email message that will be sent to you when the form is submitted. It's a simple text file in the format of an email message. Because cgi-email sends this text file as an email message, it must have the proper header fields to work properly and must not have any blank lines before the first field.

The format of the template after the header lines is up to you. The only thing you must have is the names of the form fields in brackets. Below is an example of a text template to go with the form above. You may also review your mail.txt file.

<nowiki>
To: John Doe <username@xmission.com>
From: [name] <[required-email]>
Reply-to: [required-email]
Subject: [subject]

Sender's Name: [name]
Email Address: [required-email]

Comments or Request:
[content]
</nowiki>

You would, of course, replace "John Doe" with the name of the person or department that the email message is being sent to, and "username@xmission.com" with the destination email address.

==Adding a "success" Page==

By default, there is a text confirmation page that notifies the sender that the email message was sent successfully. However, some XMission subscribers would like to replace it with a nicer HTML success page. This is easy with cgi-email.

You will need to open the HTML form and add a hidden form field. The syntax will look like the following example

Unlike the other form fields, you cannot change the name of the "success" field. It must be named "success" for it to work properly. The value is the URL of the success page that you want to appear after the sender has successfully completed and submitted the form. The example above will show the file named "successpage.html" in acctname's public_html directory. The success page value must be a fully-qualified URL, so you may want to be sure it works in a browser first.
