General Instructions for email on Android
These instructions are written to match the default Android email application. These setting will work for any third party applications, but the process may vary.
Getting Started
- Open the phones email app
- From the home screen, open your app drawer, then select the Email application
- Enter your email address and password used to log into the Zimbra web portal
- Tap "Manual Setup"
- Selet the desired connection type, POP3 or IMAP
IMAP
Incoming Server Settings
- Change the username to your full email address
- Enter/verify your password
- Change the IMAP server to zimbra.xmission.com
- Change the security type to SSL
- The port should update to 993
- Leave the IMAP path prefix blank
- Tap Next and proceed to the Outgoing Server Settings section below
POP3
Incoming Server Settings
- Change the username to your full email address
- verify your password
- Change the POP3 server to zimbra.xmission.com
- Change the security type to SSL, the port should update to 995
- Choose when you want the email to be deleted from the server
- Tap Next and proceed to the Outgoing Server Settings below
Outgoing Server Settings
- The SMTP Server is zimbra.xmission.com
- Change the security type to SSL
- The Port field should change to 465
- Require sign-in should be checked
- Make sure that your username is your full email address. The password should carried over from the previous screens.
- Tap Next
- If successful, your screen will progress to Account Options
Account Options
- Specify how often to check for email, whether you want all email to originate from this account, and if you want to be notified when an email is received.
- Tap Next
Finish
Name the account and enter your name. Afterwards, your phone will begin downloading your messages.
