Windows NT Dialup Setup

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.

  3. A Dial-Up Networking window will appear. Choose Ok to add an entry
  4. Enter XMission for the Name of the new phonebook entry.
  5. Click Next
  6. Check ALL of the following boxes:
    • I am calling the Internet
    • Send my plain text password
    • The non-Windows NT server I am calling expects
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter in the XMission dial-up number for your area in the Phone Number entry field
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Click More.

  12. Select Edit entry and modem properties.
  13. Select the Server tab.
  14. Uncheck any protocols other than TCP/IP.
  15. Uncheck Enable software compression.
  16. Click TCP/IP Settings.

  17. Select Specify name server addresses.
  18. Check and Edit the following entries:
    • Primary DNS: 198.60.22.2
    • Secondary DNS: 198.60.22.22
  19. Uncheck Use IP header compression.
  20. Click OK.

  21. Select the Script tab.
  22. Make sure After Dialing (login) is set to None.

  23. Select the Security tab.
  24. Select Accept any authentication including clear text.
  25. Click OK.

  26. To log on to XMission;
    1. Open My Computer
    2. Open Dial-Up Networking
    3. Highlight the "XMission" entry and click Dial
    4. Enter your XMission username
    5. Enter your password
    6. Click Connect
