Configuring

The first time you open CuteFTP you will see a Site Manager window. Fill it out as follows:

1. On the left hand side, click on the folder you want to save the profile in.
2. Click on the Add site button.
3. In the Site Label field, enter XMission.
4. In the Host Address field, enter ftp.xmission.com.
5. In the User ID field, enter your XMission account name.
6. In the Password field, enter your XMission password.
7. In the Initial Remote Directory field, where the word "username" is your XMission username, enter /home/users/u/username/public_html.
8. Click OK.
9. Click Connect.

Uploading

1. Open CuteFTP and connect using your XMission profile.
2. On the left side, your local system, find the folder which contains the file you wish to upload. For example, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft FrontPage\pages\".
3. On the right side, the remote system, find the directory you wish to upload your page to For example, /home/users/u/username/public_html/.
4. On the left side, click ONCE on the file you wish to upload to highlight it.
5. Click on the Commands menu at the top of the window, go to File actions, and select Upload.

   Note: You can also drag-and-drop files from the left window to the right to upload them.

Downloading

1. Open CuteFTP and connect using your XMission profile.
2. On the right side, the remote system, find the folder which contains the file you wish to download. For example, /home/users/u/username/public_html.
3. On the left side, the local system, find the directory you wish to download your page to For example, "C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\website\".
4. Click ONCE on the file you wish to download to highlight it.
5. Click on the Commands menu at the top of the window, go to File actions, and select Download.

   Note: You can also drag-and-drop files from the right window to the left to download them.

Renaming

1. Open CuteFTP and connect using your XMission profile.
2. On the right side, the remote system, find the folder which contains the file you wish to rename. For example, /home/users/u/username/public_html.
3. Click ONCE on the file you wish to rename to highlight it.
4. Click on the Commands menu at the top of the window, go to File actions, and select Rename.
5. Type the new name for the file in the dialog box that appears.
6. Click OK.
7. Click OK.

Deleting

1. Open CuteFTP and connect using your XMission profile.
2. On the right side, the remote system, find the folder which contains the file you wish to delete. For example, /home/users/u/username/public_html.
3. Click ONCE on the file you wish to delete to highlight it.
4. Click on the Commands menu at the top of the window, go to File actions, and select Delete.

   Note: This can also be done by highlighting the file and hitting the Delete key on your keyboard.

Changing Permissions

1. Open CuteFTP and connect using your XMission profile.
2. On the right side, the remote system, find the folder which contains the file you wish to change permissions on. For example, /home/users/u/username/public_html.
3. Click on the Commands menu at the top of the window, go to File actions, and select CHMOD.
4. Click the appropriate boxes to add or remove read, write, and execute permissions.
5. Click OK.

   Note: You may set all public_html permissions to defaults by logging in to http://home.xmission.com/ and selecting the "My Account" tab. There, you will find a "Repair Your Web Permissions" option under the "XMission Tools" section.
