These easy to follow instructions will help you configure Apple's Mail.app client for use with your @xmission.com email service.
- Click the Mail icon in the Dock. If you are launching Mail for the first time, it will prompt you to set up an account. If you already have an account set up in Mail and wish to add another, click Mail > Preferences > Accounts then click the + (plus) sign in the lower left corner.
- Enter the Following information:
- In the Full Name field, enter Your Name.
- In the Email Address field, enter your XMission email address.
- In the Password field, enter your XMission password, then click .
- In the Incoming Mail Server window, enter the following configuration settings:
- In the Account Type drop down menu, select IMAP.
- In the Description field, enter XMission
- In the Incoming Mail Server: field, enter mail.xmission.com
- In the User Name and Password fields, enter your XMission account name and password, then click .
- In the Outgoing Mail Server window, enter the following configuration settings:
- In the Description field, enter XMission.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server: field enter mail.xmission.com
- In the Use Authentication field, check the box and verify your XMission account name and password, then click . Even though you enter the proper account name and password, Mail may complain that they are incorrect. If this is the case, click until it proceeds (usually just one more time).
- In the Outgoing Mail Security window, enter the following configuration settings:
- Check Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
- Set Authentication: to Password.
- Verify the settings are correct on the Account Summary screen, then click .
- Pull down the Mail menu and select Preferences.
- Under Accounts select the newly created XMission account.
- At the bottom of the window, you should see Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): XMission. Click on XMission and select Edit Server List.
- Click the Use Custom Port circle button and enter 465 in the box to the right.
- Click OK.
Mail should now be set up to send/receive email using your XMission account. Using IMAP allows you to check email via your Mail.app program as well as access https://webmail.xmission.com when you are away from your primary computer.
