 NOTES:

**This document assumes you have already connected your Pipeline and
can connect to the configuration via the serial port interface, if
you have not done this step, refer to the setup instructions in the
first few chapters of the Pipeline Manual.

**These instructions should also work on Pipeline 50, 85, (and
possibly even a Pipeline 25), but some differences might exist with
that equipment. As well, different revisions of pipeline software
will place some of these settings in different places, or not at all.
If you don't find a setting where indicated in this documentation,
look for it elsewhere but don't worry if you don't find it.

 TIPS:

**To achieve an initial connection with a new Pipeline, you will need
to set the port speed in your terminal program to 9600. After
completing Part I, you will want to adjust your port speed to 57600.

**After you've set the IP address on the pipeline and saved that setting,
you should be able to telnet to the pipeline. Telnet connections are
generally faster and smoother than serial connections.

**If you have a hard time moving around the menus, try "Ctrl-n" to go
      down and "Enter" to select.

**Every time that you are prompted to "2=Exit and discard" or "1=Exit and
accept" after making changes, be sure and select "2=Exit and accept".

**Unless noted here, leave your pipeline at the default settings. If
you're not sure if your other settings are at default, you might want
to set your pipeline back to factory defaults. Refer to Appendix A for
      details.

were 123-4567 and 123-4568 and your area code was 801, you would
       enter your information like this:
         My Num A: 1234567

         SPID 1: 80112345671111
         SPID 2: 80112345681111
**NOTE: Steps 8-11 will not be available in some versions of software
 8. Set "Data Usage" to "A+B"

 6. Set "Encaps" to "PPP"
     * If you are purchasing a bonded account (which allows you to use
both channels), you must set "Encaps" to "MP", however, you must
make sure that XMission has set you up for multi-link PPP before you can do
this, or it will not connect.
 7. Set "Dial #" to your local dialup ISDN number
     * Refer to Part II, step 16 for details
 8. Leave "Calling #" empty

Appendix A "Resetting Your Pipeline to Factory Defaults":

NOTE: Only do this if you have the proper serial cable available and make sure
that you have all of the necessary instructions available to you since
you won't be able to connect to the Internet with your pipeline until
it has been reconfigured. You must use a serial cable since your ip
address will be erased and you won't be able to telnet to your pipeline
until you've reset your IP address.

 1. Connect the proper serial cable from your computer to your pipeline
 2. From the Main Edit Menu, choose "Configure" and then "Ctrl-d".
 3. From the menu, choose "D=Diagnostics" to be taken to a command prompt
 4. Type "fclear" and hit "Enter"
 5. Type "nvramclear" and hit "Enter" (this will take some time)
 6. Power cycle your pipeline (turn it off and back on)
 7. Your pipeline will POST(Power On Self Test) and boot to factory defaults

TIP: This might be a good time to upgrade your pipeline. Refer to Ascend's
tech tech support or your Pipeline documentation for Details.
XMission's techs are not qualified to help in such matter

Appendix D "Screenshots from typical pipeline setup":

NOTE: An important step in troubleshooting many issues with the pipeline should
be to look at the "Link" status in the top middle box. As show below,
proper ISDN line status (regardless of whether or not you're dialed into
XMission) is indicated by "Link D", as shown below.

Ascii screenshots illustrate the edit menus and settings for NAT:
