  • If you have already been running iChat for other Instant Messaging accounts, skip down to the


  • Start iChat. The Mac icon for iChat looks like this:

  • If you haven't run iChat before, a window will appear asking you to setup an account.

iChat Account Setup

  1. Pull down Account Type and select Jabber Account
  2. In the Account Name field enter your email address@xmission.com.
  3. Click the Password box and enter your XMission email password.
  4. Press the Server Options arrow and make it point down to reveal further options.
  5. Click the Server: box and enter xmission.com.
  6. Click the Port: box and enter 5223.
  7. Click the Use SSL check box and make certain it is checked.
  8. The Use Kerberos v5 for authentication check box should be unchecked.
  9. Click the Continue button.


  1. Click on the Start button, select Programs click on the Mozilla Thunderbird folder and select Mozilla Thunderbird.
  2. Click Tools and select Account Settings.

  3. Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the menu on the left. In the Server Name: field enter mail.xmission.com. In the User Name: field enter your XMission user name.

  4. Click the Add Account button. Select Email account then click Next

  5. In the Your Name: field enter your name as you would like it to appear on your outgoing messages. In the email address field enter your XMission email address, then click Next.

  6. Select POP. In the Incoming Server: field enter mail.xmission.com then click Next.

  7. In the Incoming User Name: field, enter your XMission user name then click Next.

  8. The Account Name: field is used to identify your XMission account. By default it will have your email address there, you can leave that or enter whatever you would like, then click Next.

  9. Look over the information and verify that everything is correct, then click Finish.

  10. You can now click on the Get Mail icon. You will be prompted to enter your XMission password. You can check the box to have your password remembered, or leave it unchecked to enter it each time you check for new mail.

Congratulations! You are now set up to send and receive mail using Mozilla Thunderbird.
