Salt Lake City, UT — November 4, 2013 — On November 11, 2013, XMission celebrates its 20th Anniversary in business. XMission, founded in 1993 by tech entrepreneur Pete Ashdown, was Utah's first Internet Service Provider (ISP).

In 1993, XMission offered residential dialup Internet connections. As the Internet matured, and as consumer needs changed, XMission expanded its portfolio of services to include web hosting, broadband connectivity, and business services. Today, XMission makes most of its revenue from local and national business customers. XMission's core services include cloud hosting, colocation, business connectivity, and email hosting.

By 2005, XMission started deploying free wireless throughout downtown Salt Lake City. Currently, XMission has wireless services in over 30 local businesses, libraries, and parks in Salt Lake City, and will include even more businesses in 2014.

In 2007, XMission became the first Internet service provider in Utah to upgrade to 100% renewable energy. This year, XMission will offset its carbon footprint more by installing rooftop solar panels.

XMission has also historically worked closely with the Utah nonprofit community. For years, it has donated free hosting and connectivity to over 500 nonprofits. Additionally, XMission has sponsored a number of community-based events and facilities for many years, including the Salt Lake Science and Engineering Fair, the Utah Arts Festival, Craft Salt Lake, and the Twilight Concert Series.
